Top Places to Explore with Kids this Summer!
Most families are experiencing a different summer, with vacation plans canceled and the uncertainty of the future there are still many opportunities to create memories and make this summer enjoyable. "Staycations" have been becoming more popular over the years, families choosing to stay close to home, instead of traveling for their vacation. Southern California has many options to create family fun and explore all this area has to offer.
1. Take Kids Fishing
This is the best place around to introduce kids to the great sport of fishing. Only a small admission fee and only pay for the fish you catch. Also, you don’t need to spend a bunch of money buying all the kids fishing gear. We have everything they need and you can rent a rod for just $5.
For about a twenty-dollar bill, you and your kid can catch fresh fish for dinner and have a great time together!
Huckleberry Fish Pond is designed just for kids and is loaded with fish. Your kids can catch tonight’s dinner! Talk about fresh fish! Typically, we have rainbow trout and or catfish in the pond, and it won't take all day because we keep the fish hungry and ready to bite. In addition, our staff is here to help you and your kids with questions, rigging, and fishing tips.

2. Visit the Tidepools at Leo Carrillo State Park
Leo Carrillo State Park has 1.5 miles of beach for swimming, surfing, windsurfing, surf fishing, and beachcombing. The beach also has tidepools, coastal caves, and reefs for exploring. Giant sycamores shade the main campgrounds. The park also features back-country hiking.
2. Sled the Giant Hill at Point Mugu
Point Mugu State Park, located in the Santa Monica Mountains, features five miles of ocean shoreline with rocky bluffs, sandy beaches, sand dunes, rugged hills and uplands, two major river canyons and wide grassy valleys dotted with sycamores, oaks and a few native walnuts. There are more than 70 miles of hiking trails. The beach also features swimming, body surfing, and surf fishing. The park includes the jagged pinnacles of the Boney Mountains State Wilderness Area.
Driving north up PCH, you'll see the sand dune on the east side after passing by Sycamore Canyon/Sycamore Cove Beach and before reaching the entrance to the Thornhill Broome Campground.
3. Newport Dunes Water Park
Newport Dunes Water Park is a one-of-a-kind waterscape with the largest fleet of inflatables and watercraft rentals, inside a secluded, tranquil bay in Orange County.
With more than a million gallons of seawater and acres of open space, the Water Park is more than just an inflatable obstacle course. It’s an aqua adventure of lush, tropical environment that is immersive, interconnected and perfect for all vacationers, both young and old.
4. Pick Your Own Fruits and Vegetables.
Admission is $5.00/person in Moorpark and $3.00/person in Somis. Under 2 are free. Tractor-drawn wagon rides in Moorpark are included as well as use of pull wagons & wheel barrows. Pull wagons are available in Somis. Personal strollers & wagons are allowed. Trained service dogs only.
We limit entry if needed and only admit when other visitors leave. Masks for ages 3+ are required upon entry/exit to both locations, on the tractor-drawn wagon rides in Moorpark and at both of our Farm Markets. Hand-washing stations are throughout the farm as well as restrooms. Sanitizer and masks are used by our Farm Team. Equipment in high-traffic areas is continually sanitized.
5. Rent a Boat and Explore the Harbor
Ventura Boat Rentals is your one-stop-shop for boat rentals. From kayaks and SUP boards to pedal or powerboats, we’ve got every vehicle you can possibly think of! Our rentals are first come first served.

6. Explore Archery
The Conejo Valley Archers provides an Open Public Archery Session every Saturday at the club's Public Session Range facility. Come out and join us!
We welcome individuals and families interested in the sport of archery to train with us, starting with the basics and giving you the archery skills to move up through longer distances and into competitions.
At the Conejo Valley Archers Public Session Range facility located at 4651 Tapo Canyon Road, Simi Valley, CA 93063.
Children must be at least 8 years old to participate in our program in the interest of safety.
Cost: The cost to shoot at a Saturday Session is a $5 range fee donation per person. This includes all equipment, range use and instruction by our staff of USA Archery certified instructors and coaches. Archers with their own equipment who are not CVA Members are also requested to pay the range fee donation to cover use of the facilities, targets etc.
